Snowflake challenge: Day 14 and 15

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

I'm a bit late with these, but better late than never, eh?

Day 14:

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

Okay, so this is difficult! I'll try to only rec things I haven't recced before. Some of my favourites that I've read this last year (although there have been so many that choosing was all but impossible). It's been a while since I read all of these so I had a bit of trouble writing my thoughts, but they really made an impression on me.

Title: In the Company of a Rubber Duck
Writer: [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Summary: War makes for strange bedfellows. However that doesn't fully explain how Harry ended up sharing his bath with Draco Malfoy... nor why Malfoy was a rubber duck at the time.
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~35,000
Content/Enticements: Getting together fic, EWE, post-war, humour, and smut.
My thoughts: This is such a funny and amazing fic. The premise is so original, slightly ridiculous and done so well. So much snark and humour and yet lots of emotion as well.

Title:
If Memory Serves
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion
Pairing(s)/Character(s): Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, Gregory Goyle, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley
Disclaimer: Harry Potter characters are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No profit is being made, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Dubcon, angst, memory loss
Word Count: 30,601
Summary: Maybe Draco wants to forget. Maybe it’s wrong to make him remember.
My thoughts: Definitely one of my favourites from last years [livejournal.com profile] hd_hurtfest. Such an original take on the memory loss trope. Even if you're sceptical about the whole angst thing I really recommend giving this one a go!

Title: How I Met Your Father
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dracogotgame
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, Harry/Ginny, Harry/OMC, Ron/Hermione, Blaise/Ginny
Summary: Harry sits his kids down and tells them a story. A very long story.
Rating: R
Warning(s): Suggestions of homophobia, adopted children
Word Count: 95,200
My thoughts: This is a HP remix of How I Met Your Mother, and even though I'm unfamiliar with the show I enjoyed this thoroughly. It's so fun and sweet and clever and emotional. I absolutely adored it.

Day 15:
In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something fun you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it.

Okay, so this was really hard. But I'm going to go for: Do something nice for a fandom friend. Make art for their fic, make fic for their art, make them an icon, write them an awesome comment, send them a message and say hi, fulfill one of their wishes... You name it.

Also, I'm going to encourage people to complete [livejournal.com profile] gracerene's challenge, and make a post on their journal with likes and dislikes for people to look at. A bit hypocritical of me, since I don't have one, but I totally plan on making one. Yes I do.

In the Company of a Rubber Duck was one of my favorites from last year's Erised!

And your challenge is so sweet! Also, yay for likes/dislikes list! Excited to read yours!

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, mine too! It's absolutely excellent.

Haha, yeah I'll try to do mine asap, but it's so hard!! I always struggle so much to make sign-ups for exchange fests! A good thing with such a post is that I can update it, though, so that helps! Hope everyone does this :D

If Memory Serves! *sways* And Rubber Duck! Rubber Duck is entirely too adorable -- I don't even know what it is about it; I mean, it sounds like it might be crack, and it's certainly hilarious at times, but it's also sad and deep and beautiful :')

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! They're both so incredibly good. And totally agree about Rubber Duck, with the humour an depth together. Birds always do that so well. :)

Thank you!! This was such a lovely surprise!! Your other two recs are excellent, I'm quite chuffed to be in such good company!

Love your challenges, too. Both excellent ideas. (I've been meaning to make a post like that and the two of you are very good motivators.)

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They're really excellent, and so is yours :D You're very welcome!

Hope you make such a post. I'd love to see everyone's!

Ah, thanks so much for the rec, dear. It's not been a great day and that meant a lot. *squeezes you*

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. But glad I could help a bit at least! You're very welcome. The fic is brilliant and deserves a rec or ten! *hugs*

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't Birds brilliant? That story was for meeeeee, so I love it especially hard. :)

And yes to the likes and dislikes post. I have one, and speaking as someone who participates in fests, it makes the job of a creator that much easier if your recipient has one of those.

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-19 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes she absolutely is. That story is amazing! You're so lucky to have go it :D

Oh yes, I can totally see those posts being a huge help for exchange fests.

These recs are <333

And your challenge!!! <3333 I'll take it! <3

[identity profile] anemonen.livejournal.com 2015-01-19 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes they are! I'm guessing almost everyone has read them, though, but I mostly only had time to read from active fests last year so I didn't have any unknown treasures to bring forth. (And people say fandom is dying! *shakes head in disbelief*)

YAY! <333
