Day 5

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Soo, my reading lately has mostly consisted of Erised and some original mm novels, so I'm gonna rec my own gift as well as some of my other favourites from the fest and some arts from Tumblr. I'm still FAR from finished reading Erised, though, so there might be some amazing ones I've yet to read to. Also so much amazingness in everything there in general?

I'll just put in a general rec of all things Erised, art and fic. Because that fest is always so good. So so good.

Title: Into My Heart
Author: Anonymous
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco (dur) with a side of Ron/Hermione
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~19,000
Warnings: None
Content/Enticements: friends with benefits, UST
Summary: No strings…easy. Right? Unless you're Draco Malfoy and you're having sex with Harry Potter.

My thoughts: This was my gift \o/ It's a friends with benefits story, which is one of my favourite tropes. There's such an explosive chemistry between Harry and Draco, and so much pining from Draco. Some great side characters too, in their friends. Loved their friendships.

Title: Bound To You
Author: Anonymous
Pairing(s): Draco/Harry
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~28,000
Warnings: None
Content/Enticements: Accidental Bonding, Cursed Bonding, Curse Breaker!Draco, Cartographer!Harry, Unusual Careers, Lots of sass, Mild angst, Pining, Slow burn.
Summary: Hag magic is capricious and unruly, and Harry and Draco are bound to stay by each other’s side until they can solve the riddle. In between long car trips, misty rain, and midnight star charts, they begin to understand each other.

My thoughts: Wow this story has such a cool premise, and it explores so many interesting things wrt magic and careers. Harry and Draco is bonded to a curse, and the way the curse works is so different and creepy and interesting and the author does such a great job in exploring Harry and Draco's developing relationship through it. So much cleverness in this story.

Title: The Loathly Worm
Author: Anonymous
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~12,000
Warnings: See Erised post
Content/Enticements: Secret identities, evil ghosts, and a Loathly Worm. Oh, and the power of True Love!
Summary: When Draco Malfoy is forced to go undercover among the remaining Death Eaters in the aftermath of the war, the last person he expects to find there is Harry Potter.

My thoughts: Another very cool premise, with some really interesting takes on magic. And the story is told in such a different and interesting way too, sort of with flashbacks after the fact. Harry and Draco are both undercover in a Death Eater camp after the war, and are drawn to each other even not knowing who the other is at first. The story is intriguing and suspenseful and I love all the interesting details and their developing relationship.

Title: A Ghost in the Garden
Author: Anonymous
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~27,000
Warnings: See Erised post
Content/Enticements: Aurors, casefic, partners, pining, awkward bed sharing, sexual tension, snark, society shenanigans, dragons
Summary: That night Draco dreams, and he is the ghost in his garden. He is both silvered figment and his own solid and flesh face pressing against the window, watching. Spinning and spun, haunting and haunted. Turned and turning, an open mouth with no sound.
Harry and Draco are thrown together on an investigation into a sinister political movement.

My thoughts: This fic is so beautifully written, with this sort of permeating melancholy that I really love. It explores the politics of the Magical world, which is something I find really cool, as well as being a great auror mystery. So many good characterisation and the character arc is beautiful. Wonderful story.

Okay, over to some beautiful Tumblr arts:

This drawing by dasstark might be one of my favourite portraits ever of Ginny. She looks so fierce and beautiful and cool and her hair is so stunning. I might be in love.

This incredibly beautiful picture of the Marauders by upthehillart. The whole vibe of the picture is so great, with the warmth of the Gryffindor commonroom and the light from the fireplace. Plus, Sirius is stunning, which I guess is as it should be.

Also this stunning little comic by [personal profile] 8c of Ginny and Luna is too adorable for words. *sighs happily*

Also, in the end, does anyone fancy some One Direction fics? Because in this rec post I go on about all my favourites, and let's face it, I won't miss an opportunity to flail about them ;)

Oh god, the shame, I was totally trying to think of the amazing Hockey RPS I read ages ago, until I saw you said original M/M!

I haven't read most of your erised recs! I am still trying to catch up, thanks for the pointers.

Ohhhh I'd absolutely be up for a fic too!! Other than our national pride Zuccarello (who's in NY Rangers and is featured on the national news if he as much as sneezes) I don't know who anyone is, so it'd practically be original fiction for me anyway :)

Gosh, I'm super far behind myself, so after a while I started using [ profile] capitu's recs as guide so as not to feel completely overwhelmed. But I hope I'll be able to read the rest too.

Right, well, I had to go and find the hockey fic, and then I had to reread it LOL to see if I REALLY WAS going to rec Hockey AU A/B/O to someone. And yes, I am, because it's as good as I remember. BUT, it has stuff you may hate, I don't know, so no offence!

It is a light-handed approach to regulation and it's Omegaverse. So there's that whole consent aspect, the characters are attracted to each other against their will at some points, BUT, there's no sexual contact until consent is agreed. Then there are the dubious politics of the A/B/O world, but in this fic I really like the way the author deals with that. They explore the power imbalance and the expected behaviour of the Alpha and the Omega and they really get in and challenge it, subvert those politics and it totally worked for me. It's really hot for all the usual A/B/O reasons, but with the exploration of consent and power politics, it made it hot for a lot of extra, different reasons as well! So a full thumbs up from me, but I completely understand if you give it a miss.

Okay, I gotta be honest here and admit that Omega verse is something I usually avoid D: It's not even the dub/non-con aspect (although kudos to the author for handling that aspect well), but the whole sex thing is a bit too creature-y for me. Idk. It's not a squick or anything, and I've read a few, just not quite my cup of tea. So, I can't promise that I'll read it, but I'll keep it in mind in case the mood strikes ;)

At any rate, thank you for taking the time to look it up for me! I appreciate it <3

All of those erised stories are so good!! I think I read the entirety of The Loathly Worm with an expression of sheer delight on my face, and I'm halfway through Bound to You right now and can't wait to see how it ends :D

I haven't read any sporty books as I tried tigers and devils a while back and didn't really like it. I have them on my life but haven't had the chance... I have this one but haven't read it: playing for keeps I bought it when it was free on amazon, I can share the kindle link that you can read for free for two weeks. Let me know if you're interested.

I know [ profile] gracerene has read most of the series, maybe? I might be confusing that info though.

Ooh, thank you! Seems like Oakstone mentioned that one below too. And Scotland! I'd be very interested in the link, please <3

I think I quite like reading about life behind the scenes in the sorts of things I'll never experience, and professional sports really fit there lmao.

M/M Sport Recs!

two book Hockey series by Sarina Bown and Elle Kennedy: 1) Him 2) Us. SO GOOD.

Sarina Bowen also has a college series built around hockey, but only one is m/m (the others are good too though but you can read the m/m on its own) Understatement of the Year. It is a tad similar to Him but is so good I didn't mind the similarities.

Sloan Johnson has a whole baseball series which is fairly good.

And Avery Cockburn has a Glasgow football series (soccer) that is brilliant and just drenched in real feels.

And MY FAVORITE is Tigers & Devils by Sean Kennedy (two followups, too, but the first is the best). Australian football .

M/M recs!

Him Series and Understatement of the Year by Sarina Bowen are great. A little similar, but good! (both Hockey)

LOVED the Glasgow Lads Series by Avery Cockburn (football/soccer)

Reading the Signs by Keira Andrews was also brill (baseball)

I think we may have talked about this book before, but I also liked
Pull me Under by Zarah Detand (football/soccer)

Also, these next two are about competitive ice skating, which may not be the vibe you're looking for, but it's a sport, and I enjoyed them :)

The Next Competitor by Keira Andrews and Training Season by Leta Blake (more lukewarm on this one, but it was decent)

(I personally really wasn't a big fan of the Tigers & Devils series, but I know Oakstone loves it, so maybe you will too?)

Ohhh thank you so much! Just started the Glasgow lads series, as dig shared a kindle link, and loving it so far! (Even if John is stressing me out rn - just be honest please omg!!!) (Also, the author pseudonym is amazing. Reminds me of a town I visited this summer that was called Cockermouth which high key made me giggle.)

The Zarah Detand book I think I actually recced you? Haha, she's actually a fandom writer in the 1d fandom and has written some FANTASTIC fics there. Sadly she's left now :(

The Keira Andrews stories are the ones that got me on this roll in the first place. Got the figure skating one from your review that appeared in one of my Goodread update mails, actually ;) Your Goodreads is a goldmine! Thanks for doing that, writing all those reviews, it's so great <3

Thanks for all your recs!! They sound really great :D
